SUPPORT FOR PARENTS & CAREGIVERS
At Cowichan Valley Youth Services, we believe parents and caregivers play an essential role in the wellbeing and development of young people.
Through individual support, groups, workshops, and resources, we help caregivers strengthen relationships, build confidence, improve communication, and navigate challenges in ways that foster connection, resilience, and healthy family relationships.
At CVYS, we recognize that young people are deeply connected to their families, caregivers, cultures, and communities. We believe that supporting youth often means supporting the adults who care for them. By strengthening communication, building understanding, and fostering healthy relationships, we help create the conditions for young people and families to thrive together.
OUR APPROACH

SUPPORT FOR PARENTS & CAREGIVERS OF YOUTH
Parent & Caregiver Support
Free support for parents and caregivers of youth in the Cowichan Valley who are navigating family challenges, communication concerns, or other situations affecting their young peron.
Our Youth & Family Support Practitioners work alongside caregivers to build on strengths, explore new perspectives, strengthen family relationships, and identify practical strategies that support positive outcomes for youth and families.
Services may include:
-
One-to-one support sessions with trained Youth & Family Support Practitioner;
-
Strategies for improving family communication;
-
Specialized groups;
-
Referrals to additional community resources;
-
Family sessions to bridge connections between caregivers and youth.
The program aims to shift unproductive patterns, such as frequent arguments and offers alternative solutions. It emphasizes the importance of avoiding power struggles and teaches effective communication techniques that encourage cooperation.
Support is offered via one-to-one sessions or through weekly Drop-in on Friday mornings.

Workshops for Parents
& Caregivers of Teens
Our workshops for parents and caregivers of teens are facilitated by experienced Youth and Family Support Practitioners and focus on the real challenges families are facing today. Sessions offer practical, research informed information and space for reflection on topics such as teen brain development and phone use, communication, self harm, anxiety, and motivation. Caregivers are invited to learn alongside others, deepen understanding of adolescent development, and strengthen their ability to support teens with care, curiosity, and connection.
